Brief Descriptions of Each Field of Study
Japanese. The study of the language, literature, and culture of Japanese -speaking peoples.

Jazz. The study of the jazz musical tradition, including history, forms, and performance. Instruction may cover performance (instrumental or voice) and arranging/composition.

Jewish/Judaic studies. The study of the history, society, politics, culture, and economics of the Jewish people.

Journalism and mass communicatio

ns. The study of the methods and techniques for gathering, processing, and delivering news. Includes instruction in news writing and editing, reporting, journalism law and policy, professional standards and ethics, and journalism history and research.

Junior high education. Prepares individuals to teach students in the middle, intermediate, or junior high grades, which may include grades 4 through 9, depending on the school system or state regulations. Includes preparation to teach a comprehensive curriculum or specific subject matter.

Juridical science/legal specialization. Advanced programs of study that prepare attorneys and law school graduates for advanced technical specialization in legal research and practice.
