RESEARCH COLLABORATION

The College of Engineering has identified four strategic areas of significant research focus for the next decade. Our goal is to maximize usage of our facilities and human resources in the areas that we have established capital with a track record of achievements. These research areas are:

Computation, Communication, and Information,
Advanced materials, Nanomaterials, Nanoscience, and Devices, and
Energy and the environment.

Much of the ongoing research in the college, and future activities in the cited research areas, is closely aligned with the national research agenda as well as with Southern University’s strengths and priorities. The four areas we have selected as the focus of significant research are expected to strongly influence curriculum, facilities, and faculty hiring. The COE will also continue to strongly support collaborative research programs with national and international universities.

The University has a policy on intellectual property and licensing procedures that promote producing and disseminating knowledge. We are encouraged and interested to produce creative and scholarly works and the development of intellectual property specially those which may have potential commercial value.

DEGREE AND DIPLOMA PROGRAMS

Currently Southern University does not offer any degree programs in India. However, we are interested to explore the opportunity to initially offer engineering and computer science programs and expand it in future.

CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

We are initially interested to offer Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering programs, Electronics Engineering Technology, program, and Computer Science program.

TWINNING / TRANSFER PROGRAMS

Undergraduate: Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering programs, Electronics Engineering Technology, program, and Computer Science program.
Graduate: Master of Engineering in CE, ME, EE. Master of Computer Science.

DISTANCE EDUCATION PROGRAMS

STUDY ABROAD IN INDIA PROGRAMS

Southern University is interested in participating in a study abroad program in India. Since 1992 the university has entered into formal Memoranda of Understandings (MOU’s) with universities in Mexico, Nicaragua, China, Malaysia, Uganda, Liberia, South Africa, The Gambia and Senegal, including a pending MOU with Fatih University in Turkey. The program offers study abroad, faculty exchange, international research, and teaching and project management and consultant opportunities. A unique facet of the study abroad program is the combination of service learning with language acquisition. The study abroad program has a structure which includes a combination of language development and international service learning. The service learning approach helps students to understand the concept of putting service above self by giving something back and valuing the positive aspects of each countries own culture.

We form MOU’s with universities which can help to provide credibility to the program and where possible, arrange for housing with host families. This reduces the cost significantly while increasing the participation in the host countries culture and strengthens language development. Southern University is also interested in having Indian students participate in study abroad programs on this campus. We have hosted many groups from our cooperating international universities.

STUDY TOUR OF INDIA PROGRAMS

There is considerable interest in organized study tours of short duration (2 weeks) in India by citizens in the local community. As the university becomes more involved in international education, many requests have come from the community at-large regarding establishing a short tour for local teachers, retirees, senior citizens, and various community groups.

Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering programs, Electronics Engineering Technology, program, Computer Science program, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, all Business majors, etc.

RECRUITMENT OF STUDENTS

Undergraduate BS degrees: Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering programs, Electronics Engineering Technology, program, and Computer Science program.
Graduate: Master of Engineering in CE, ME, EE, Master of Computer Science, PhD in Environmental Toxicology, MS and PhD in Urban Forestry.
