The Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (PGSP) is a not-for-profit free-standing educational institute in Redwood City, California. It offers one undergraduate (BS in Psychology) and four graduate programs - a PhD in clinical psychology, a PsyD in clinical psychology, an MS in Psychology through distance learning, and an MS in Clinical Psychology (in conjunction with the Aigle Foundation in Buenos Aires, Argentina).

PGSP was founded in 1975 and has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), since 1988. The PGSP PhD program has been accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) since 1988. The PGSP PsyD program, in conjunction with Stanford University's School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and operating as the PGSP–Stanford Psy.D. Consortium Program, was accredited by the American Psychological Association in 2006.

PGSP is not affiliated with the similarly named Pacifica Graduate Institute, located in Carpenteria, California.

The Pacific Graduate School of Psychology hosts and helps fund the Kurt and Barbara Gronowski Psychology Clinic. The clinic is a community-based psychology training clinic and treatment center dedicated to providing high quality, evidence-based, clinical services to adults, children, and families in the bay area community. The mental health clinic is directed by Dr. Robert Reiser and provides pro bono services for a number of clients.

Graduate Programs

The Doctoral Programs at PGSP are deeply committed to educating well rounded clinical psychologists who are capable and competent as both researchers and clinicians. Students are taught to be science minded while appreciating the larger role of psychology in alleviating suffering in the world. This balance includes learning to value evidence-based clinical models while maintaining the responsibilities psychologists have to their community, society, and profession. An outstanding faculty of clinicians and researchers provides rigorous classroom instruction, clinical supervision, and research mentoring to help students find the right balance for them.

Ph.D in Clinical Psychology
Working within a training model best described as "practitioner-scientist," students systematically move through five years of coursework and practica to acquire Ph.D.-level competence and capability in areas of psychological theory, research, and practice.

  • J.D./Ph.D
    Psychology and law students are enrolled concurrently at PGSP and GGUSL, taking courses at both institutions for a total of six years, plus a one-year psychology internship.
  • M.B.A./Ph.D Psychology and MBA students will be enrolled concurrently in PGSP and USF, taking courses at both institutions for approximately five years, plus a one year psychology internship.
  • Certificate in Neuropsychology
    An elective certificate program is offered to PhD students at PGSP and to other appropriately credentialed psychologists who wish to develop a proficiency in neuropsychological assessment.

PGSP-Stanford Psy.D Consortium
The PGSP-Stanford Consortium's academic program is taught by an outstanding faculty drawn from PGSP at Palo Alto University and the Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.
M.A. & Certificate in Forensics and Correctional Psychology
PGSP announces a new Master's degree program in Forensic and Correctional Mental Health Counseling (MHC)and a Certificate Program in Forensic and Correctional Psychology.
M.S. in Psychology (distance learning)
PGSP offers an innovative and highly structured part-time 1 or 2-year Master of Science degree program online. This program can be taken as a terminal master's degree program, or a bridge to the Ph.D. program.
M.S. in Clinical Psychology (PGSP-AIGLE)
The PGSP- AIGLÉ program is taught by an outstanding faculty from PAU and Aiglé Foundation together with seasoned guest professors. It integrates sound, clinically-oriented, theoretical training with systematic, professional practice.

Undergraduate Programs

Palo Alto University and its partner, the De Anza - Foothill College District located in the Silicon Valley, one of the most dynamic economic areas in the country, have created an innovative Bachelor's degree completion program to facilitate the process for community college students wanting to transfer to a Bachelor's program and for individuals who already have a degree and wish to re-specialize in psychology in preparation for a new career or further study.

Bachelor of Science in Business Psychology
The new Business Psychology Program - offered in cooperation with Foothill College - is an expansion of PAU's deep commitment to the integration of research, the core foundation of psychology, and professional business practices.
B.S. in Psychology and Social Action
The P3 program (Psychology, Passion and Promise) is designed for students who have a passion for psychology and who would like to make a difference in their communities and in the world.

Kurt and Barbara Gronowski Clinic

The Kurt and Barbara Gronowski Psychology Clinic at the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology is a community-based psychology training clinic and treatment center dedicated to providing high quality, evidence-based, clinical services to adults, older adults, adolescents, children, and families in our community. Our clinic uses several evidence based psychological treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, illness management, and family psychoeducation and family management.  

Child and Family Program: Dr. Sandra Macias, Assistant Clinic Director, leads a child, adolescent, marital and family specialty clinic providing assessment, treatment for a range of problems including behavior problems, child and adolescent mood and anxiety disorders, parenting problems, couples therapy and family therapy.
The Shyness Clinic: Dr. Nicole Shiloff directs the Shyness Clinic, a specialty program that provides evidence-based treatment for shyness and social anxiety.
Bipolar Disorders Clinic: Dr. Robert Reiser, Clinic Director, heads up the Bipolar Disorders clinic that provides evidence-based psychosocial treatment including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that teaches people specific cognitive and behavioral skills to help control and minimize the risk of serious mood swings.
PTSD/Trauma Clinic: The Early Intervention Clinic collaborates with the Gronowski clinic by providing referrals and clinician training on assisting trauma survivors.
Stress Management: The Inner Resources Program provides assistance for stress related problems.
